The Opportunity
Value First Staffing Solutions Inc. is seeking a visionary Digital Architect to lead the design and delivery of modern digital services for a major public sector initiative. This is a high-impact, long-term opportunity to transform legacy systems into modern, cloud-native solutions using cutting-edge containerization and infrastructure-as-code practices.
You will act as the technical bridge between user-centric design teams and engineering, ensuring that solution architectures are scalable, secure, and perfectly aligned with the needs of Albertans.
Key Responsibilities
In this senior leadership role, you will define the technical future of digital service delivery:
- Solution Architecture: Leading the design and delivery of complex software architectures, ensuring they meet enterprise standards and business goals.
- Modernization: Driving the incremental transformation of legacy systems into modern digital services.
- DevOps & Infrastructure: Implementing and overseeing containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code.
- API Strategy: Designing and managing robust APIs, including RESTful services and modern integration patterns.
- Security Integration: Applying secure development practices and managing identity and access management (IAM) within digital solutions.
- Collaborative Leadership: Working closely with UX designers, service designers, and product owners to ensure technical feasibility matches user needs.
- CI/CD Oversight: Implementing automated CI/CD pipelines with integrated testing to ensure rapid, high-quality deployments.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Technical Experience:
- 5 years of experience as a Software Architect leading design and delivery.
- 5 years of experience with containerization, orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code.
- 5 years of proven ability to define and communicate solution architecture to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- 4 years of experience working within multi-disciplinary teams (UX, Service Design, Product Management).
- 4 years of experience conveying complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
- 6 years of experience transforming legacy systems into modern digital services.
- 5 years of experience with Microsoft .NET Framework.
- 5 years of experience designing and managing APIs (RESTful services).
- 4 years of experience with secure development practices and IAM.
- 4 years of experience implementing CI/CD pipelines.
- 4 years of experience with both relational and non-relational databases.
- 3 years of experience within public sector digital service frameworks.
- 2 years of experience with Government of Alberta IMT policy and environments.
Working Conditions & Requirements
- Location: Based in Edmonton. While the role offers remote flexibility, you must be available for onsite collaboration and strategic sessions in Edmonton as required.
- Term: April 3, 2026 – March 31, 2029 (Long-term 3-year contract), with potential for extension.
- Work Schedule: Full-time (36.25 hours per week)
- Security Clearance: A successful criminal record check is mandatory prior to commencement.
- Mandatory Training: Upon hire, completion of courses in FOIP (Privacy), Cybersecurity, and Workplace Respect is required.
